Wearing Perfume During Lockdown

Around when lockdown started was when we started our fragrance module, I have learnt so much about the fragrance industry and fragrance itself that I never knew before. Perfume had always been a significant part of my getting ready routine; whether that be just to do some shopping or whether it was to go on a night out, I find perfume adds that last little touch before you walk out the door and you feel like you are completed. I also already knew that scent could hold memories to it. If a scent flew up into my nose it would rush a million thoughts into my head, I love being reminded by scents that hold good memories, but scents that remind me of times I’d rather forget are the worst when they make their way past you.

During lockdown, obviously we aren’t fixing ourselves up to get ready for a night- out, but I have to say- the highlights of my week are getting ready for a quiz on Zoom or to do the weekly shop at Asda. Even if I’m not wearing any make-up, I find myself putting on perfume and I still get that same feeling of, “okay I’m ready to leave the house now.”

Half of my perfumes are still in my flat in Nottingham and some are at home with me, before I went to Asda the other day, I sprayed Daisy by Marc Jacobs which I’ve had for a few years now. I find the scent is bright and playful, perfect for a young woman who is wanting to feel confident and empowered when she puts it on. That is definitely how it makes me feel.

I find when I spritz myself with Daisy during these never-ending weeks of lockdown it brings floods of memories coming back to me. All good memories. Like going for cocktails with my Mom, pre- drinks for my birthday, 2019 NYE, and even just the simple things like going shopping by myself searching for new clothes and never being able to find things!

Reminding myself of the good memories pre-COVID is really what I’ve found that gets me through the down days, (that and excessive amounts of online shopping) so when spritzing myself with different perfumes that I own brings back reminders of easier times, is really special to me.

I’ve also been thinking about purchasing a new perfume, so that after all this is over, I can live out some new memories to a new scent. So that in years and years to come, if someone in the street walks past me wearing that same perfume I can be reminded of how good life felt when we were all allowed to meet up with each other again <3
