There were 2 new exhibitions on at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery that I'd never seen before. The exhibitions they put on at the BMAG that aren't permanent there are really quite impressive sometimes, compared to the permanent resident rooms they have had there for years.
Don't get me wrong, the art that has been there for years is really impressive but my Mom had been taking us on days out there since we were kids so I really have rinsed and repeated the Egyptian exhibit and the Staffordshire Hoard a bit too much now!
They have 3 spaces designated for special exhibitions. One space with 3 rooms for one exhibition, another space consisting of one room for another exhibition and then a whole hall, The Gas Hall, on the bottom floor of the museum dedicated for a large scale exhibition space.
The Gas Hall is where I've seen some of my favourite exhibitions that the BMAG over the years, some really unique digital visuals and some beautiful photography. Themes ranging from art about LGBTQ and art about how far technology has come today.
The exhibitions that were on today when I went were 'Dressed to the Nines' and 'Birmingham Revolutions'. I can't say they impressed me as much as my two favourites above but they were still good for such a small art gallery.
Dressed to the Nines was an exhibition about going out in Birmingham Whether that be to a dinner, to a club, to a concert or wherever your night is taking you. Birmingham Revolutions was about protesting in Birmingham over the years, different union strikes, different protests and marches.
