I wanted to explore and shoutout some collectives from my home town, people I love interacting with, events I love going to and people I love buying off. I think supporting local creatives in your area is so key because it helps them create the platform they need to branch out into other cities and reach people across the world.

Here are 2 of my favourites...

Case Study 1- Sum Cellar

Sum Cellar are a collective in Birmingham that put on events around the city and DJ at different events in Birmingham and London and have even DJ'd at Spring Break Amsterdam. I have been to multiple Sum Cellar events and they are honestly some of the best nights I've ever had. They bring rave lovers of the city together with amazing DJ's and being so versatile.

Sum Cellar literally started in 'some cellar' in Birmingham, George who is the director of the collective wanted the youth of Birmingham to have somewhere to go to enjoy themselves without having rules to follow, feel the pressure of clubs and just a place where they can dance to music thehy like with their friends.

Sum Cellar's events these days aren't in a cellar anymore, they have worked their way up to DJ'ing and hosting events at LAB11 in Digbeth, which since Rainbow Venues got shut down, is the best venue for rave events.

Here is a short snippet at an event Sum Cellar put on in 2017. They put on 2 types of event normally, Brum Tropicana and then their events as Sum Cellar. Brum Tropicana is normally disco, house, funk and sometimes some techno. A really easy feel good vibe that you can dance to without going too crazy. Then at their Sum Cellar events they play DnB, bassline, garage and grime. These events are normally their more popular events.

Case Study 2- Hissy Fit Clothing

Hissy Fit Clothing is a Birmingham born and bred brand that in house; designs, makes and sells clothing for raves and festivals. Here is their story...

I follow their Instagram and girls all over the country every weekend go out feeling amazing and confident in Hissy Fit! It is lovely to see a company making clothes and promoting them without highly editing their photos and just empowering girls to be who they want to be without feeling conscious that they can't get their skin out.
